Real Madrid vs Leganes
Spain – Copa del Rey
Date: Wednesday, 24 January 2018
Kick-Off at 20:30 UK
Venue: Estadio Santiago Bernabeu (Madrid).
Real Madrid have finally produced a decent attacking display. The victims were Deportivo La Coruna who returned to Riazor with seven goals in their net after getting a shocking lead midway through the first half at Estadio Santiago Bernabeu. Gareth Bale, Cristiano Ronaldo and Nacho bagged a brace each, while a goal also came from midfielder Luka Modric (his first of the season).
It is clear that Los Blancos will not defend the title in Primera Division being as many as 19 points behind Barcelona at the top of the standings at this stage. This leaves the Copa del Rey trophy as an imperative for Zinedine Zidane and his men and we can only imagine how huge of a disaster a potential failure to Leganes here would be.
The French manager used a mixed lineup in the first leg at Butarque where Los Blancos have been struggling badly to break the deadlock and create in the final third at all. At the end it was Marco Ssensio who made the difference and helped Real Madrid gain at least some sort of advantage ahead of this rematch at Santiago Bernabeu.
Nonetheless, it is all but a closed tie since Leganes can be dangerous in the final third, particularly if they are underestimated. The Legionaries may have lost three and drawn one in last four games in all competitions, but such results came as a consequence of a very tough schedule and we would not be surprised to see them find the net this Wednesday at Bernabeu.
Real Madrid vs Leganes: Head-to-head
