What the Cameroon national team is currently experiencing, we can also sing a song here. It is not even three years since the German national team won the world title. However, with the fourth star on the chest, the team needed more than a year to return to the World Cup and the World Cup.
Similarly, it appears to be the troops from Central Africa. Since the start of the year (2: 1 in the final against Egypt), the Cameroonians have been able to win a single match – with a total of four appearances. The physically strong elite of coach Hugo Broos, in particular, showed considerable deficits at the top level. Thus, the team was home to the latest campaign against Colombia home and thus chancenlos (0: 4). The fact that Robert Tambe wrote additional negative headlines with an unnecessary reprimand still sets the crown on the current misery.
If the Cameroonians do not want to go again against a South American team Baden, a change of thinking will be needed. It can only be about combat, passion and tactical discipline, because the golden lion generation with exceptional characters such as Samuel Eto’o or Rigobert Song belongs to the past. With Jacques Zoua, a German legionary from FC Kaiserslautern is also in the squad.
Africa Cup of Nations champions Cameroon are expected to stick to the winning formula from the start of the year and that will see Hugo Broos’ side set up in a 4-4-2 formation.
Ambroise Oyongo has been ruled out of the tournament after suffering an injury in their final warm up match, which means Ernest Mabouka may have to cover at left-back.
Ondoa – Teikeu, Oyongo, Ngadeu-Ngadjuiu, Fai – Andrè Zambo, Siani, Djoum, Moukandjo – Bassogog, Aboubakar
The part played between Romania and Chile was especially medial, because Romania’s national co-ordinator Christoph Daum, following the encounter, had an intensive wordplay with a journalist. For the Chileans, however, who lost a 2-0 lead against the possibly middle-class Eastern Europeans, the result and the associated performance offered cause for concern.
Just as before against Russia, the winner of the Copa America 2016 did not succeed to save a lead sovereignly over time and to shoot for the Confed Cup in form. Instead, the performance dips and some side warriors (Keeper Claudio Bravo in court, Gary Medel saw red card) draw an increasingly pessimistic picture.
This would not really be necessary. Because if there is next to Germany another favorite on the title, then are the Chileans. In contrast to the DFB, the tactically-wielded South Americans were even chosen for the best possible squad. In the clear text: Topstars like Arturo Vidal, Alexis Sanchez or Claudio Bravo are all in the squad.
Thus coach Juan Pizzi is spoiled for choice before the opening match against Cameroon. Only Keeper Bravo goes to the tournament and could miss the first assignment due to muscular problems. Apart from that, Pizzi is likely to put on his tried-and-tested triple chain as well as the elite axis “Vidal-Sanchez”.
Claudio Bravo hasn’t played since suffering a calf injury that ended his season with Manchester City back in April and the Chile captain will not feature in their Confederations Cup opener against Cameroon on Sunday. Johnny Herrera will deputise as a result.
Alexis Sanchez is a slight doubt after reportedly picking up an ankle knock in training.
Herrera – Roco, Mena, Diaz – Medel, Vidal, Diaz, Aranguiz, Valencia – Sanchez, Vargas
