Arsenal vs Benfica
Emirates Cup 2017
Date: Saturday, 29th July 2017
Kick-off at 16:20 UK/ 17:20 CET
Venue: Emirates Stadium, London.
Gunners start their annual Emirates Cup against Portugal champions Benfica on Saturday evening.
The tournament kick-off earlier the same day when Bundesliga runner-up RB Leipzig lock horns with La Liga outfit FC Sevilla.
After starting the pre-season on a winning note in Australia with back-to-back wins against Sydney FC and Wanderers, Arsenal struggled in the International Champions Cup. They got out of a jail with a late goal from Alex Iwobi to hold Bayern Munich to a 1-1 draw and eventually beat the Germans on penalties. The lowest point then followed when arch rivals Chelsea thrashed them 3-0.
It is important for Wenger to rally the troops to winning ways, especially in a tournament held at their own backyard.
Meantime, Benfica are coming on the back of some inconsistent results. The won 2 and lost 2, however the two defeats came against below average teams like Hull City and BSC Young Boys.
The Gunners are expected to raise their game in front of their home fans, especially when Wenger is desperate to get the fans behind the team before the start of new season. To their aid is an inconsistent Benfica team. So there is no doubt that this fixture will end in a comfortable Arsenal win.
Arsenal vs Benfica Head to Head [H2H]:
Arsenal were the better side when the teams met at the Emirates Cup in the summer of 2014. Thanks to Yaya Sanogo, who currently plays in the Ligue 1 with Toulouse netted four times in the 5-1 encounter.
Arsenal to Win.
